We will follow the same procedure that we have implemented for
Katrina. Access your needs and forward this information to Pr. John Ellwanger in the District Office (1-800-951-3478 or 512/926-4272) (e-mail:
johnellwanger@yahoo.com ), who is serving as our Recourse Coordinator.
He will match up the needs you have with our available resources.
Continue to monitor the Katrina/Rita
Information site,
which you will find at:
http://www.texasmmf.org/rita/ or on the Texas District web page,
http://www.txdistlcms.org/ . This is managed by Lou Jander. If you think you have some information
that should be shared with others in the District, call Claudetta Theis in
my office or contact Lou (281.970.5308), e-mail:
LJander@aol.com ). They will determine how best to disseminate the
information,
While you are accessing the church's
needs, be aware of the community needs. There are many different
organizations that are willing to help in a time of disaster. These agencies
are all listed in the District's Disaster Plan, "Emergency Preparedness and
Response in the Community." If you don't have a copy, go to the Texas
District web site (www.txdistlcms.org
). Please read through this document which was prepared by the Disaster
Response Task force about two years ago. It will provide you with some other
helpful information. You will note there is a disaster plan for the
Congregation and the Family as well as the Community.
The Texas District wants to provide
help, as much as we can, to the people in your communities. I believe the
best way for us to do that in an organized and equitable way is through the
local pastors and school administrators. We do not intend to respond to any
community needs unless they come to us through the churches or schools.
I continue to pray for you and your
congregations that God would grant you protection and an opportunity to
share the Good News of Christ in the recovery from Rita.
Peace and Joy in Christ,
