There are approximately 20 full-time Deaf churches in the LCMS. About 200 "hearing" congregations have regular interpreted ministy for Deaf persons. There are more than 3 million deaf and 28 million hard of hearing people in the United States. About 95% of deaf people are not churched, which makes deaf ministry a vast mission field.
