January 31, 2010
Dear Brothers in Christ,
We
are now into the 2010 Epiphany season. Ash Wednesday is February 17 and
Easter is April 4. One week later, April 12-14, is our Pastors' Theological
Convocation.
The
Theological Convocation Committee has been working over a year to develop a
conference that should significantly address some of the issues and concerns
that we LCMS pastors wrestle with as we carry out our ministries. Under the
theme, "Two Kinds of Righteousness: Looking Up and Working Out Equipping
Saints for Authentic Living," two thought provoking presenters have been
selected to provide a look at a theology that could have impact on your view
of ministry.
Consider the following:
The
two kinds of righteousness:
Active: This is about what I do. I am responsible to do
them simply as a human being. It is my task in the community.
Passive: This is about what God has done for me.
It
sounds simple. Certainly this is not unfamiliar to Lutheran theologians.
The problem is these two kinds of righteousness are often confused.
The
two
presenters
are Rev. Dr. Joel Biermann of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, and Rev.
Dr. Scott Rische of El Cajon, CA. Both are gifted presenters who look
forward to sharing some thoughts with us as well as engaging us in
question-and-answer sessions.
I
strongly invite and encourage you to participate in this conference as it
enables and provides an opportunity for all of you to discuss theological
issues that can ennoble and encourage the movement of the Gospel into our
communities in ways that will help transform lives. Set aside the dates of
April 12-14, 2010, for this timely conference. It will be held at Concordia
University Texas here in Austin and will be preceded by a golf tournament
for those who indulge in such activities.

you experience technical difficulties in this process, contact Lois Wolf at

There are a number of motel options in the area. Two motel's have a
special conference rate. The special rates are guaranteed until March 1,
2010. You are responsible for attending to your room arrangements. For
